It's time Sunday night for the denouement of the
Hungarian Darts Trophy in Budapest. Good chance that there will be a new name on the honorary list of this tournament, as
Gerwyn Price is the only former tournament winner who still has a chance to win the final victory.
Price was previously winner of the first edition of the Hungarian Darts Trophy in 2021. Joe Cullen and Dave Chisnall, winners in 2022 and 2023 respectively, were eliminated Saturday. Defending champion Michael van Gerwen stranded in the last sixteen on Sunday afternoon.
Follow the Hungarian Darts Trophy 2025 via our live scores!Directly into the first quarterfinal of the evening it is the turn of Danny Noppert who was responsible for the elimination of Michael van Gerwen (6-5) in the third round, after Noppert had also won earlier from Robert Owen (6-5). Noppert does not have the best record when it comes to quarterfinals on the Euro Tour. Of his twelve previous quarter-finals, the dart player from Joure only won one.
Against Chris Dobey, Noppert will have the chance to now make it through to the semifinals. Dobey began his tournament on Saturday with a 6-3 victory over Darren Beveridge, before beating Cameron Menzies 6-5. The head-to-head is in favor of the Dutchman, who managed to win six of the previous 10 clashes with 'Hollywood'.
For the second week in a row, Gerwyn Price and
Luke Littler face each other. Last week they met in the semifinals of the World Series of Darts Finals and then it was Price who let a 5-9 lead slip out of his hands. Littler eventually won 11-10 and also eventually took the title in Amsterdam. Meanwhile, "The Nuke" also has another strong positive record against Price, as the English teenager stands at nine wins compared to seven for "The Iceman. Neither man ran into any trouble yet this tournament. Price handled Richard Veenstra (6-2) and Raymond van Barneveld (6-2), while Littler was too strong for Joe Cullen (6-1) and Martin Schindler (6-2).
On the other side of the bracket, Luke Humphries is the big name. The world number one gave his calling card Sunday afternoon by beating Mike De Decker 6-1 thanks to an average of 113.05. A round earlier, Humphries had also defeated Nathan Aspinall 6-4. His next opponent will be Niko Springer, who already managed three surprising wins. He eliminated successively Gian van Veen (6-3), Damon Heta (6-1) and Rob Cross (6-3). It will be only the first meeting between Springer and Humphries.
Another great event is the quarterfinals between James Wade and Josh Rock, two of this summer's top stars. For Wade, it will be his sixth Euro Tour quarterfinal of the season, a personal record. 'The Machine' won comfortably over Luke Woodhouse (6-3) and Kim Huybrechts (6-2) in his first two matches. Rock also did not run into any problems against Ricardo Pietreczko (6-3) and Thibault Tricole (6-3). It will be the eighth time Wade and Rock have met in an official match. Rock in particular will reflect positively on the previous showdowns, as he managed to win five of the previous seven.
