Price breaks down The Wall with thrilling victory over Schindler at World Matchplay

World Number Two, Gerwyn Price is through his opener at the World Matchplay after a thrilling victory over Martin Schindler 10-8.

Price sealed it with a 99.7 average and eight 180's as he was pushed all the way with the debutant who certainly showed he belonged on the Winter Gardens stage.

Price pinned an 80 checkout to immediately break and go 1-0 up. But Schindler hit back with a 96 checkout to break straight back at 1-1.

An 82 checkout saw Schindler hold at 2-1 and he broke him again on double 20 in the requisite leg to make it 3-1. But a 180 and double 10 saw Price break back at 3-2.

A 168 left double 20 for Price which he missed three darts at and Schindler picked his pocket to go 4-2 up and break again.

Price missed the bull for a 130 and Schindler took aim at 66 only to miss and again it was another break as ‘The Iceman’ hit 42 for 4-3 down. An 88 checkout finally saw a hold and Price made it 4-4.

Price pinned 68 to edge into a 5-4 lead but Schindler smashed in a 141 checkout to send a statement at the interval. On return, Schindler hit double 10 to go 6-5 up before Price hit an 81 checkout to get back on level terms at 6-6.

The back and forth continued as they were locked on 7-7. Two 180’s in a leg and a 44 checkout though threw it in the direction of Price who sat at 8-7 up throwing to go one away.

They traded 180’s before Price took out 88 to go on the verge at 9-7. Schindler saved his skin with a 91 checkout to trail 9-8 but Price sealed it with a 91 checkout.
