Gerwyn Price was pushed all the way but sealed a thrilling win over Martin Schindler claiming it 10-8 to continue the World Matchplay and he is now through to the second round.

"I put myself under a lot of pressure early on in the game but at 5-5 I knew I had to break him and hold my throw because I was breaking him and gifting legs back, missing two, three four darts at doubles but I think after I broke him to go 7-6 or 8-7, I hold my throw and I've got the match. I found some of my A-game towards the end of that match," said Price post match.

"Towards the end of the game, you can feel when you're in the zone and you find your purple patch and thankfully towards the end of the game, that was for me."

On the hottest day of the year so far, it wasn't a factor that affected Price due to weather in other countries during prior tournaments.

"During the game, I don't think it was that bad. I've probably been weathered through the World Cup because it was absolutely roasting up there but at the end when I was under a lot of pressure, I felt a bit of heat but it wasn't that bad actually."

He also spoke about his current form admitting he's got his confidence back but his A-game is not fully there as of yet.

"The first game is obviously always the toughest one, you never want to go out first round but every game I'm in now is going to get tougher and tougher. I feel like I've got my A-game back and my confidence back. Just hopefully I can keep it there."

"I played well in patches tonight but I'm nowhere near my A-game but I think that's a good thing. Hopefully for me, the more the season goes on the more I keep playing in these bigger events and getting a break inbetween that my A-game will come back."

He also spoke about what motivates him now he's been World Champion and World Number One.

"I haven't won this, I haven't won the Players Championship Finals, I haven't won the UK Open. I have got to the final to most barring this one. What motivates me now is just trying to fill the cabinet up, win tournaments I haven't won."
