Price reacts to Van Gerwen positive Covid-19 test: "Now this tournament is devalued"

Michael van Gerwen had to pull out of his tie with Chris Dobey at the 2021/22 PDC World Darts Championship after returning a positive Covid-19 test before play.

World Number One and current World Champion, Gerwyn Price had his Premier League campaign ruined by a positive test earlier this year so knows the feeling.

He took to Instagram after the announcement and said this now devalues the tournament and that he wants to play the best of the best in winning through.

"Now this tournament is devalued. I'd rather play the best to be the best. Absolutely feel sick for these players having to pull out over Covid," he said.

'Mighty Mike' is the third player over the past week to contract COVID-19 at the tournament with Vincent van der Voort similarly failing a pre match test and Raymond van Barneveld testing positive after his defeat to Rob Cross.
