Price seals third win over Van Gerwen in a row with 106 average, set to face Noppert in European Darts Open semi-finals

Gerwyn Price eliminated Michael van Gerwen after a very high-profile match at the European Darts Open. He will now face Danny Noppert.

Van Gerwen shot out of the starting blocks with a 13-darter and a 12-darter but Price returned to 2-2 and then took control with a 12-darter and a superb 10-darter.

The Welshman then left 86 after nine arrows, but Van Gerwen prevented Price from increasing the margin with a stunning 132 finish. However, it then became 5-3 for Price after a 15-darter from 'The Iceman'.

Van Gerwen then reconnected with a 12-darter, but still had to break his Welsh opponent. He could not, and an 88 finish won the match 6-4. Price's average ended at 106, compared to 99 for Van Gerwen.

Last Thursday, 'The Iceman' also beat the Dutchman with a high average. Then Price triumphed with an average of 115 against Van Gerwen during the weekly final of the Premier League Darts in Newcastle.

In the first quarter-final, Noppert dealt with Damon Heta. 'The Freeze' was 0-1 down, but then checked out 100 and 164, among others, for a 4-1 lead. Heta came back to 4-3, however, and even missed four chances to make it 4-4. Noppert hit double 10 for 5-3 and decided it moments later in the tenth leg with a 15-darter.
