Price sees off Razma to win Players Championship 7, seals 12th career ProTour title with first of 2022 season

Gerwyn Price has sealed his first ProTour title of the season as the cream rose to the top in a depleted field at Players Championship 7 in Niedernhausen.

It is a 12th overall ProTour title for 'The Iceman' who claimed two in Niedernhausen back in 2020 and if he wins both this weekend, he returns to World Number One. In doing so, he defeated Madars Razma 8-4 who barring a late flourish wasn't able to get a shot at a maiden PDC title.

Price sealed on opening break on double 12 to ask the question of Razma early on. A 144 leave for double 10 saw Price consolidated that for a 2-0 lead.

Like previous finals, Razma failed to get to grips with the tie and Price broke again for a 3-0 lead on double 20. Razma left 80 but Price hit back with a 135 on double 20 to rip away any chance of a break back as he went 4-0 up.

Price missed 138 on double 12 and Razma replied with 100 on double 19 to finally get a leg on the board at 4-1 down.

Price missed 88 on double 12 to hold but Razma was taken out of his zone by Price looking to confirm his score and ‘The Iceman’ was allowed to return for double three for a 5-1 lead.

A 137 left double 10 for Price with Razma on 152 so another break went to ‘The Iceman’ to go 6-1 up. 84 on the bull saw Price hold to go one away.

Razma finally added another leg. Price saw match darts come and go and Razma hit an 84 checkout to break back at make it 7-3.

A bit of complacency crept in and Razma pinned a 65 checkout to consolidate as Price couldn’t get a match dart again. Price laid up 126 to leave 40 but there were more issues relating to the technology as the tablet failed.

But more match darts came and went with it sitting at five match darts. Razma couldn’t hit 120 to stay in it though and Price returned again for double 15.
