Madars Razma has sent the first big name packing at the
Nordic Darts Masters, while
Gerwyn Price edged past Daniel Larsson to begin his
World Series campaign.
Razma saw off World Number 10, Nathan Aspinall in a result which won't be a shock to some due to the pedigree of the Latvian Tour Card holder but he is the first Nordic and Baltic representative through.
He had a fine start to proceedings with a 93 checkout to take the opening leg as he set his stall early on. Aspinall replied soon after with a 96 checkout to make it 1-1.
But the pressure began to toll for Aspinall as Razma hit his first 180 and an 84 checkout to go 3-1 up with a break. He had the chance to go 4-1 up but squandered his opportunity and Aspinall broke back immediately to make it 3-2.
But later in the match, it was Aspinall who fluffed his lines with three misses at double four which allowed Razma to go 5-3 up. It could have been concluded in the following leg but he missed five match darts and Aspinall kept the tie alive at 5-4.
Finally though, he came through with an 11-darter in the form of a 76 checkout to seal it.
While for Price, he wasn't at his best but managed to surge past Daniel Larsson 6-3 with two ton plus checkouts in the form of a 130 and 128 which see him through to the Quarter-Finals.
It was a match that started with breaks of throw but Price gained the early impetus with a 128 checkout producing a roar of approval from the World Number One.
But Larsson himself produced a potentially pivotal 80 checkout to square it up at 2-2. He couldn't find the trebles needed to pressure and Price smashed in a 130 checkout under pressure to go 3-2 up.
The Swede began his throw with a 180 but two bounceouts allowed Price a break opportunity which he claimed at 4-2 up.
A hold of throw to consolidate saw Price go one away. Larsson held throw to keep him in the tie but it proved nothing more than a consolation as Price sealed the deal.
