The semi-finalists will go home with a minimum of £32,000. The losing finalist will receive £60,000, while the winner of the European Darts Championship will receive a check for £120,000.
Ross Smith is the defending champion in Dortmund. He captured his first major title at the expense of Michael Smith. Phil Taylor won the first four editions of this tournament from 2008 to 2011. After final victories for Simon Whitlock (2012) and Adrian Lewis (2013), Michael van Gerwen took four titles in a row from 2014 to 2017.
After that, Van Gerwen failed to win the European Championship, James Wade won the title in 2020, before Cross triumphed for the second time in 2021. So last year, with Ross Smith, the European Championship got another English winner.
