Qualification criteria confirmed for 2021 Grand Slam of Darts

The qualification criteria has been confirmed after the tickets for the Grand Slam of Darts at Aldersley Leisure Village have been put on general sale.

Reigning champion Jose de Sousa and World Champion and double Grand Slam winner, Gerwyn Price will headline the field which will comprise 32 players.

Finalists from PDC televised events over the last 12 months will qualify for up to 16 places with ten of those spots already occupied.

Premier League and Masters champion Jonny Clayton, World Matchplay champion Peter Wright, UK Open winner James Wade and Players Championship finals winner Michael van Gerwen qualify automatically.

As do their final opponents with Gary Anderson, Dimitri van den Bergh, Mervyn King and Luke Humphries also taking spots.

2020 World Youth Champion Bradley Brooks and runner-up Joe Davis are also set for the field.

Should these 16 places not be filled likely due to the aforementioned names winning more tournaments, they will go to the next players from the European Tour events coming up and then Players Championship.

This means currently as of time of writing Joe Cullen is currently in alongside Michael Smith, Stephen Bunting, Dirk van Duijvenbode, Chris Dobey and Brendan Dolan based off ranking.

There will also be eight players through a Tour Card Holder qualifier which will take place before the tournament on November 5.

As well as new additions to the field to replace the former WDF/BDO additions for this year with the UK/EU Challenge and Development Tours having an added caveat with the winners not only receiving their Tour Card and World Championship spot but also a spot in Wolverhampton.

These spots are currently occupied by Matt Campbell and Jim Williams heading into the final round of Challenge Tour action with the Development Tour set to start at the weekend of 20 August.

As well as that there willl also be two Order of Merit winners from the PDC Women's Series from events 5-8 and 9-12 who will finalise the line-up.
