Williams on potential choice between WDF and PDC World Championship: "It's a bridge I've got to cross when I come to it"

Jim Williams leads the PDC Challenge Tour after six days of play. The 37-year-old Welshman is surprised that things are going so well.

Williams has not been playing that much since the pandemic began. "To be quite honest, better than expected. I've not really practiced or played hardly anything for the past 18 months so yeah to go and do that was good," said Williams to the Weekly Dartscast.

"I think it focused me for the rest of the weekend. The whole three days, it was just the consistency. The first two events weren't quite as good but like I say I was going in completely rusty."

'The Quiff' lost the final of the BDO World Championship at the beginning of last year. "It is the one event us guys play towards and get ready for so to not have it was a bit gutting. Everyone is in the same position so you've got to try and do your best."

"To be at Lakeside, it's great. It's probably the most iconic venue in darts, it really is special. I've not had that feeling walking into anywhere like the Lakeside, it's a special place."

Hard choice to make

The winner of the Challenge Tour will claim a place at the PDC World Championship but Williams is also certain of qualification to Lakeside although can't play in both.

"It's a bridge I've got to cross when I come to it. We're not going to know now until September whether I finish top or not. We've got a decision to make."
