Phil Taylor has lauded
Gerwyn Price for how he dealt with the crowd who he called like an 'extra dart' in your hand now as their involvement continues to be an increased presence as darts gets more popular.
Price won a third night of
Premier League Darts action in Liverpool seeing off Luke Humphries with a 104.43 average in a 6-4 win over 'Cool Hand Luke'. He becomes the fifth different winner in the past five weeks.
Taylor sees it as a real coup nowadays to have the crowd on your side with the increased whistling and booing. Luke Littler was on the end of it in Liverpool as he became the pantomime villain as he supports Manchester United.
Onto Birmingham and Taylor also assessed play-off chances for the top names and who will be in contention with his old sparring partner Michael van Gerwen likely wanting to put it right.
"Massive shoutout to Gerwyn Price, did he hold his nerve? That's the main thing now is the crowd involvement and holding your nerve when you're under that much pressure. As they're really like an extra dart in your hand when the crowd is with you," said Taylor to Bet Goodwin in his weekly round-up.
"The darts is so big, it's massive so many congratulations to Gerwyn Price, he did really well and Luke Humphries did. This Thursday massive night again. Night 13 Birmingham. Gerwyn Price he obviously is on a win so could be in contention. Luke Humphries is playing well. Stephen Bunting and Chris Dobey might struggle to qualify but they're two spaces still available."
"Michael van Gerwen at the moment is coming in fifth which he will not like one bit. So let's see what happens on Thursday. Whoever holds their nerve with the crowd has a massive chance."
