Gerwyn Price was all smiles after winning this Thursday night's
Premier League Darts action in Liverpool. This marked a stark contrast to one week earlier however, when the Welshman had been left seething at what he perceived to be unplayable conditions on stage in Rotterdam.
"Gutted for myself, gutted for everyone that supports me. I'm so sorry but this week was pointless and we move (on) to next week. Darts were blowing everywhere and after leg one which was lucky I knew it was pointless," said Price on Instagram after losing out in the quarter-finals in the Netherlands. "Where I was in the league after vital points it's not what I wanted. Hopefully PDC will now stop coming here and look for alternative venues. Not good for the players, not good for the fans and not good for people that like a bet. Onto next week where we get to play in decent conditions."
Following Price's win over Luke Humphries in the final of Night 12 in Liverpool, the former world champion was asked about these comments on stage by
Sky Sports.
"When the conditions are good and it's a fair game I play some good darts," he smiled, before doubling down on his criticism of the Rotterdam playing conditions. "Sometimes I do throw my toys out of the pram when things don't go my way but I had a reason last week. We don't deserve to play in those conditions."
"They say we have to play in Rotterdam every year but surely they can find a venue where it is fair for everyone?" Price asks.
"People say it is the same for every player but it definitely isn't. Some throw heavier darts, longer points, thicker flights, it's not the same for everyone," he concludes, shutting down one of the leading arguments against his criticism. "If you had the World Snooker Championship and lifted one leg up on one end, put it down on the other end, I'm sure Ronnie O'Sullivan wouldn't be happy with that."
