Record for Martin Schindler: highest average ever for a German on the European Tour

Martin Schindler made an excellent start to the Austrian Darts Open. In the opening round, he defeated James Wade 6-4.

A multiple major winner, Wade was not to be taken for granted, despite his lesser form of late and himself averaged almost 100. However, the 27-year-old German has been in top form in recent weeks and showed it once again in Premstätten with a performance of the highest order, posting an average of 111.37 in victory.

No German player has ever reached a higher level on the European Tour. It is also the first time a German has recorded an average of over 110 on the European Tour. His average of 111.37, by the way, puts him in 69th place of all time.

Schindler, who won the International Darts Open earlier this month, will take on his 12th-seeded compatriot Ricardo Pietreczko in the second round on Saturday. The winner of that match will then face the winner of the match between Chris Dobey and Jonny Clayton.
