Raymond van Barneveld edges Mike de Decker at Austrian Darts Open after wins for Martin Schindler & Chris Dobey

Raymond van Barneveld has managed to qualify for the second round at the Austrian Darts Open. In the first round of the Euro Tour tournament in Austria, the win in the Dutch-Belgian clash against Mike de Decker went 6-5 to the 57-year-old Dutchman.

Van Barneveld had an excellent start to the match, taking the first three legs of the match. 'Barney' fell silent after that, however, and saw the next four legs all go to Decker. Van Barneveld then made it 4-4 and even made it 5-4 with a great 136 finish, but was then broken back himself. In the last leg, however, Van Barneveld then showed his class after all with a 96 finish for the match.

Martin Schindler also started the Austrian Darts Open with a victory. The German faced a formidable opponent with James Wade, but managed to win the encounter 6-3. He will play Ricardo Pietreczko in the second round on Saturday.

Chris Dobey reached the second round of a Euro Tour tournament for the fifth time this season. 'Hollywood' had a somewhat favourable draw with Graham Hall as his opponent and lived up to his favourites by beating his English compatriot 6-2. A match with Jonny Clayton awaits Dobey at the last 32 on Saturday.
