Richard Veenstra victorious on Ally Pally debut with 3-0 win over Ben Robb

Former Lakeside semi-finalist Richard Veenstra has had a winning debut at the PDC World Darts Championship. The Dutchman took a 3-0 win over Ben Robb.

Although the quality of the opening set might not have been the best, it was still enthralling viewing. Veenstra took a 2-0 thanks in part to a dreadful dart by Robb when he bust 41 in one dart. 'Big Rig' fought back though, levelling the set, only for Veenstra to take out a fabulous 112 for the 1-0 lead.

Robb opened set 2 with a 14-dart hold of throw. Veenstra levelled up in set 2, and despite numerous missed darts in the next leg, the Dutchman moved broke throw to nudge ahead in the set. Robb went wayward again in leg 4, busting the 8 he required with a single 13 allowing Veenstra to take the set and despite averaging considerably lower than his opponent, move into a 2-0 lead.

Holding throw in the opening leg of set 3, Veenstra edged closer. Robb fought back with a hold of his own on 138 in leg 2 though. Veenstra with a 142, his third ton-plus checkout of the match then moved a leg from victory. Robb then took his ton-plus count to 3, picking off 100 to send the set to a deciding leg. After missing one match dart, Veenstra made no mistake with his second to making a winning start to his debut year at the Ally Pally.
