Gerwyn Price and
Rob Cross were the first two players to qualify for the semifinals at the first round of play in the
Premier League Darts in Cardiff. Price won 6-4 over
Nathan Aspinall in front of his own crowd.
Price fell behind 0-2 early in the match, but a 13-darter and a 124 finish brought 'The Iceman' back to 2-2. In the eighth leg, Price posted a break via a 13-darter for a 5-3 lead, but Aspinall then immediately made up for that break with a 68 check-out. 'The Asp' then surrendered his own leg again, however, giving the win 6-4 to Price.
Cross recorded a comfortable victory over
Peter Wright, who again failed to impress with an average of 83.78. Cross missed four chances in the sixth leg to break Wright, but a 109 finish in the eighth leg gave 'Voltage' a breakaway lead. The Englishman then secured victory with double 18.
Before the semifinals are played, the other two quarterfinals are scheduled. Michael van Gerwen then takes on Michael Smith, while Luke Humphries faces Luke Littler.
