Robert Marijanovic worried about Michael van Gerwen's attitude: ''He just accepted that he had lost''

Michael van Gerwen surprisingly lost to Damon Heta at the Grand Slam of Darts in the last sixteen. Robert Marijanovic talked about this defeat in his podcast, which he produces with Elmar Paulke.

"What worried me a bit about 'MvG' in the match against Heta was his listlessness. He just accepted that he had lost. There was no aggression at the end, there was nothing left," Robstar said of the Dutchman's attitude. Paulke confirmed these words. He too, during his commentary on DAZN during the match, felt that Van Gerwen appeared listless.

According to Marijanovic, the crux of the match was the moment when Van Gerwen had the chance to win three legs in a row, but failed on the doubles each time. "Three times the same sequence," Marijanovic stressed. "Michael has single-double combinations to win the leg, misses two darts on the doubles three times in a row."

"Those three legs are gone and he can't keep up. He was still at the back, pulling his socks up and everything, but it didn't help. He still looked like he was taking it all in his stride and thinking, 'Oh, you know what? I'm just going to fuck it, I want to go home!' That's what he looked like to me."

The attitude of Van Gerwen, who according to Marijanovic just let everything run its course, worries the German analyst. ''I don't think you should perform like that right before the World Darts Championship. Also for yourself. It's not about what I think or what the spectators think, but for yourself. Otherwise such an attitude sticks in your head and I don't think champions should have that, that they just accept anything," he continues.
