Mervyn King is one of the notable absentees this weekend at the
Players Championship Finals. In the history of this tournament, it is the first time King is absent.
The Englishman failed to scoop enough prize money at the Players Championship tournaments this season. In the past, King has shown some good performances at the Players Championship Finals. In 2010 and 2020, "The King" was even in the final, but it did not result in a title.
The absence of King has left only two players who have qualified for all editions. The first is
James Wade, who only managed to reach the semifinals in his first participation in 2009. In 2011 and 2017, 'The Machine' recorded another quarterfinal place, but in the other editions Wade was invariably out before the quarterfinals.
Steve Beaton didn't miss an edition either. 'The Bronzed Adonis' does not have a great record at the Players Championship Finals either. A quarterfinal finish in 2017 was his best result.
