Luke Humphries impressed with a 102.15 average and four 180's as he soared past Krzysztof Ratajski 6-4 but all wasn't what it seemed as 'Cool Hand Luke' lost his cool and left his darts at home before flying to the European Championship.
"I was really happy but I came here I did an interview with ITV and didn't realise that I'd left my darts at home so silly me. I had to pick up a brand new set, I was surprised at how well they went because I was worried that as a professional the first thing you should remember is your darts but when you've got a son at home and you're doing other things and you leave them in the board, that's things that can happen. Rookie, rookie mistake, I'm just happy it didn't cost me," said Humphries on Online Darts.
"When I was doing the shots for ITV, I opened my case up and realised it felt a little bit light and then realised they weren't in there. I had a spare set but they were brand new and as a professional darts player, it's not easy to throw with a brand new set. You like a worn in set well I do personally."
Becoming a father recently, Humphries spoke about the feeling but that he hasn't been able to enjoy it as much due to not being at home.
"It's a different experience, I'm enjoying it. It's quite a surreal feeling, when he was born it brings emotions that you wouldn't realise that can happen. I cried like mad when he was born and I've enjoyed the time he's been here but obviously I've not enjoyed as much time as I've been away as much as he's been alive. But he's doing well and it's my greatest achievement."
