Michael van Gerwen will not seal the
Dutch Darts Championship in front of his home crowd in Zwolle and will not face a familiar rival in
Simon Whitlock who had the better of him throughout the Green Machine's slide.
After yesterday's brilliant display over Jelle Klaasen, it was a flat performance from 'Mighty Mike' who fell 6-4 to
Callan Rydz in the Last 16.
It was equal until 4-4, but the 32-year-old Dutchman never reached his best level and constantly fluctuated around the 90 average. Rydz certainly didn't play great either, but managed to place the decisive break at 4-4 with a 13-darter.
Trebles dried up for Van Gerwen and in the end Rydz took full advantage on double 20 as MVG's averaged finished on 90.9 with 17 missed darts at double.
Like alluded to Whitlock is through with 'The Wizard' seeing off Daniel Larsson in a superb 6-1 rout which featured the incredible 150 checkout with three bulls and with Peter Wright also out, it is a wide open section with 'The Riot' to face 'The Wizard' later.
