The final 12 group matches of the
World Cup of Darts are scheduled for Friday night. After tonight, we will know which countries will join England, Wales, the Netherlands and Scotland in the knockout phase.
The evening kicks off with a meeting between Belgium and China. For years Dimitri van den Bergh and Kim Huybrechts formed a well-oiled tandem at the Nations tournament, but the two have problems with each other privately. It caused the two Belgians to ignore each other in their opening match against Finland. That one was nevertheless won 4-0. On Friday morning, the two players met for a good talk, after which the hatchet was buried, at least for the time being. Against China, they need only one leg to qualify for the second round.
In the duels between Czech Republic-Philippines, Italy-Sweden and Poland-Lithuania, there is more tension. In these games, it is all or nothing, with the winner advancing to the last sixteen. After that, Latvia can ease into the Last 16 by dealing with Bahrain. The same goes for South Africa against Iceland.
The Irish and the Croats will then go into a direct battle to determine who can make it to the last 16. France will then need two legs against Ukraine to advance. Canada next faces a decisive match with Hungary in Group H.
Host Germany can then get the job done against Japan. Defending champion Australia battles Gibraltar, while the evening session concludes with a friendly between Denmark and the United States.
Where can the World Cup of Darts be seen on TV?
The World Cup of Darts will be shown in full on Sky Sports in the UK as well as PDCTV as well as Viaplay and DAZN in other territories.
On Thursday 15 June and Friday 16 June, the matches from the group phase are scheduled. On Saturday 17 June, the second round is
scheduled. The rest of the tournament will be completed on Sunday. In the afternoon, the quarter-finals will take place, followed by the semi-finals and the final in the evening session.
What is the distribution of prize money at the World Cup of Darts?
There will be £450,000 in prize money during this pairs tournament. The event has a higher prize pool than last year. A total of £100,000 has been added to the prize money to be distributed.
The 36 countries in the group stage will receive a minimum of £2,000 per player, while players from the top four seeded countries will receive at least £9,000 each. This could eventually rise to £40,000 per player on winning the World Cup of Darts.
