Thursday night, March 6,
Premier League Darts returns to Brighton for the fifth round of play of the 2025 season. The coastal city has a rich history in the tournament and is known as a venue where some great duels have been fought in the past. With a number of interesting matches, it promises to be another enthralling evening as the top four race heats up.
Since 2007, Brighton has regularly hosted the Premier League Darts. That year it even hosted the grand final, in which Phil Taylor crowned himself champion by defeating Terry Jenkins. The current format with weekly mini-tournaments, introduced in 2022, marked Brighton's return to the calendar after a five-year absence.
One of the most memorable matches in Premier League history also took place in Brighton. In 2015,
Michael van Gerwen and Dave Chisnall played a duel of exceptionally high level. Van Gerwen finished with an average of 111.90, while Chisnall stuck at 106.01. At the time, the match ended in a draw, something that is no longer possible in the current format.
Follow the Premier League Darts 2025 via our LIVE SCORE!Gerwyn Price v Michael van Gerwen The first game of the evening is immediately a cracker between the number three and four in the standings. Gerwyn Price, with seven points, has a small lead over Michael van Gerwen, who collected six points. The rivalry between these two superpowers has been a guarantee of spectacle for years. In their head-to-head, Van Gerwen is well ahead with 34 wins against Price's 15. Still, Price managed to beat Van Gerwen in Brighton last year with an average of 108.08.
For Van Gerwen, it's time to make a statement in this Premier League. The Dutchman has yet to reach a weekly final and was disappointingly eliminated in the first round last week in Exeter. For Price, the challenge lies in continuing his good form. A win would put him more firmly in the top three.
Luke Littler arrives in Brighton full of confidence. Last weekend, the only 18-year-old sensation won the UK Open, already his fifth major title in less than a year. In the Premier League he is also running well: he won the second round of play in Glasgow and reached the final in Exeter last week. With a league average of 104.96, Littler is the only player with a league average above 100.
Chris Dobey started the Premier League well with a final place in Belfast, but then failed to win a single match. Against Littler, it will be a difficult task. Littler leads 2-1 in the mutual meetings, although Dobey managed to win their last game (6-5 in October 2024). Dobey will need to take points to avoid falling too far behind in the race for the playoffs, while Littler will want to narrow his gap with frontrunner
Luke Humphries.
Rob Cross v Luke Humphries Rob Cross plays a home match in Brighton this week, something that may give him an extra motivation boost. Last year he faced Luke Humphries in the same arena, who beat him then with a phenomenal average of 113.71. Humphries is in blood form and is the sovereign leader of the standings with 15 points. He already won two rounds of play and seems to be the man to beat in this Premier League.
Cross did not manage to reach a single weekly final this season and urgently needs results if he does not want to put his hopes of participating in the playoffs on ice soon. Interestingly, he holds a slight advantage (13-10) in the head-to-head against Humphries. Of the last four encounters, Cross won three. Can he continue that streak and stop the frontrunner?
For Stephen Bunting, it is already five to twelve in this Premier League Darts. The Englishman is still scoreless after four rounds of play and is at the bottom of the rankings. His scoring ability is too erratic and he misses too many chances on the doubles. Against Nathan Aspinall, however, he gets a chance to take his first points.
Aspinall, however, has been in good form in recent weeks. He made the final in Dublin and was a semifinalist in Exeter last week. With five points, he is fifth, but with Price and Van Gerwen playing each other, a good result could put him in the top four. Historically, Bunting has a slight edge in mutual encounters (6-4) and he is already three duels in a row unbeaten against Aspinall. Still, their last meeting dates back to February 2024. This encounter may yet prove crucial for both players. Can Aspinall keep the connection with the top four, or will Bunting finally manage to get rid of the zero?
Winner's bonus of £10,000
A unique aspect of the Premier League is that a separate tournament is played each week of play, with the winner receiving an additional £10,000. This means that a player who manages to win multiple weeks of play can boost his prize money considerably. Since the league lasts for 16 weeks, an additional total of £160,000 can be distributed to the winners of these nights of play.
With performances, players also earn points toward the Premier League standings. The winner of a weekly tournament receives five points, while the losing finalist takes home three points. Semi-finalists keep two points and players who lose their opening match go home scoreless.
