We conclude this week with three great matches on Sunday night. First, the final match of the third round is played at the PDC World Darts Championship, before starting with the first two matches of the fourth round.
For both rounds, four sets must be won to reach the next round. The winners of the fourth-round matches return to the stage on New Year's Day for the quarterfinals of the PDC World Darts Championship.

Robert Owen had 99 percent secured his PDC Tour Card he said after his surprising victory over Gabriel Clemens in the second round of the World Darts Championship. For now, that one percent has come true and Owen will have to fight Sunday night to keep his Tour Card. Due to the performances of Jeffrey de Graaf and Nick Kenny, Owen is now virtually 66th in the world rankings and so a win over Ricky Evans is needed to get back into the top-64. In terms of form, that should certainly be possible, as the Welshman left a fine impression in his first two matches. He first defeated Niels Zonneveld 3-1 and then overcame Gabriel Clemens 3-1. Against the German, Owen even reached an average of 99.
Santa Evans has made it to the third round at the World Championships for the second consecutive year. However, he is expected to trade Merry Christmas Everyone for another festive emergence number. Evans had won 3-2 in sets over Gordon Mathers in the first round after a tough match, but then eliminated Dave Chisnall (3-2) in a brilliant battle.
Owen and Evans already met three times on the floor in 2024. Two of those matches were won by Owen, who leads 3-2 in the head-to-head. Their World Championship clash will be the first time the two men meet at a televised tournament.
What a delightful match to open the fourth round with. A Welsh cracker between Gerwyn Price and Jonny Clayton vying for a spot in the quarter-finals of the World Darts Championship. Both darters from Wales have had a similar match in the third round. Clayton squandered a 3-0 lead in his match against Daryl Gurney before 'The Ferret' still prevailed 4-3. Clayton also escaped elimination in his first match when Mickey Mansell missed a matchdart to knock the Welshman out of the tournament.
Price got through his first match with no problem via a 3-0 win over Keane Barry. 'The Iceman' was then on his way to a big win over Joe Cullen, but let a 3-0 lead slip out of his hands against Joe Cullen. 'The Rockstar' eventually even missed a matchdart against Price, after which the former rugby player took the win in a sudden-death leg.
It will be the 33rd official meeting between Clayton and Price, with the latter holding a 21-11 advantage in the mutual balance. Nine of the last 10 clashes were won by Price.
Luke Humphries v Peter Wright
The fire leading up to this match was stoked by both of them. Peter Wright said after his victory in the second round that he expected Raymond van Barneveld to reach the last sixteen at the expense of Luke Humphries. That prediction went totally awry, as 'Barney' lost as early as the second round. Wright, however, lived up to his part of the bargain by defeating both Wesley Plaisier (3-1) and Jermaine Wattimena (4-2). Especially against Wattimena, Wright made a fine impression with an average of 96 and a finish percentage of 45 percent.
Luke Humphries responded to Wright's statements by stating that 'Cool Hand' is only one world title away from the same number as Wright, which would allow him to match Wright's career, so to speak, while Humphries is some 25 years younger. However, things are not going well for Humphries yet this tournament. Although he won trouble-free against Thibault Tricole (3-0) and Nick Kenny (4-0), he has yet to show the real top form needed to take the title in London. Perhaps a big name like Wright can bring out the best in Humphries.
This year, Humphries has turned his negative head to head into a positive record. At the beginning of 2024, Wright was still leading 6-3 in the head-to-head, but Humphries managed to win all four encounters this season, making it now 7-6 for the Englishman.

The 96 participants at the 2025 World Darts Championship may divide as much as 2.5 million pounds between them. That amount is almost forty times higher than at the very first edition of the PDC Worlds in 1994.
The 64 participants to start in the first round of the World Darts Championship will receive £7500 in prize money anyway. The top-32 of the seeding list are guaranteed 15,000 pounds. These players enter the World Darts Championship from the second round. The amount then increases further each round. The new world champion will receive the top prize of 500,000 pounds.

In the first round, there will be no tiebreak if it is 2-2 after four legs in the fifth set. In that case, the fifth leg will be sudden-death. Starting from the second round, a tie-break rule will be applied in all matches; a deciding set must be won with a difference of two legs. If the score in the final set becomes 5-5, a sudden-death leg will still be played.
