The class of 2020... Who will be walking away with the trophy?
More than five months later than originally planned, the play-offs of the Premier League Darts will finally take place on Thursday evening.
For the first time since 2012, Michael van Gerwen is not among the four remaining players in the prestigious darts competition. Michael van Gerwen finished sixth in the league phase and is therefore missing during the play-offs of the Premier League Darts.
Debutant Glen Durrant is one of the four players during the final evening. The three-time Lakeside champion made an appearance as 'Contender' in 2019, but is participating in the full competition for the first time this year. Duzza did not seem to be nervous at all, as he won the league-phase and the league bonus of £25,000.
Durrant takes on Gary Anderson in the semi-final, who finished fourth in the standings. Anderson was unable to beat the Englishman in their two meetings during the competition. The first clash ended in a 7-4 win for Durrant and the second meeting resulted into a draw. However, The Flying Scotsman gave up a large lead in that match and missed several match darts for the win.
Nathan Aspinall followed more or less the same route as Durrant. The Asp was invited to make one guest appearance in the Premier League Darts last year and was allowed to play the entire competition during this edition. Aspinall performed well and became third in the competition.
That means that the former UK Open champion will compete against world champion Peter Wright for the second place in the final. Both games in the league phase were won by Wright, meaning that both players have now won four of eight head-to-head games.
