Saturday afternoon sees the start of the second edition of the World Seniors Darts Masters. Last year the tournament took place at Lakeside in Frimley Green, but this time the Westlands in Yeovil will host the senior tournament.
Sixteen well-known darters aged over 50 are competing in the World Seniors Darts Masters. The afternoon session will see Chris Mason, Martin Adams, John Part and Kevin Painter, among others, in action. On paper, the duel between John Part and Kevin Painter is the most appealing clash in terms of names. Both veterans fought several bitter duels in the (distant) past. Remarkably, in the years Part won the PDC World Championship (2003 and 2008), he defeated Painter in the semi-finals both times.
The opening match of the tournament is between ten-time women's world champion Trina Gulliver and Chris Mason. After that, darts legend Martin Adams faces qualifier Dennis Harbour.
The last match of the afternoon could also be a special one. In that match, Bob Anderson and Richie Howson take on each other. For 75-year-old Anderson, it could possibly be the last match of his professional career. The 1988 world champion has indicated he will retire from his professional career after this tournament.
