The 2025
German Darts Grand Prix is underway, with the opening eight matches of the first round played on Saturday afternoon. The tournament continues on Saturday evening with the remaining first-round clashes.
Now in its seventh edition, the German Darts Grand Prix has become a fixture on the European Tour calendar. Michael van Gerwen claimed victory at the inaugural event in Mannheim in 2017 before the tournament moved to Munich the following year, where the Dutchman secured back-to-back titles in 2018 and 2019. After a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Luke Humphries lifted the trophy in 2022, with Michael Smith emerging victorious in 2023. Humphries reclaimed the title in 2024, making him a two-time champion.

The evening session opens with a Euro Tour debut for Adam Paxton, who earned his PDC Tour Card at the start of this season. While Paxton’s results on the floor have been underwhelming—exiting in the first round of eight consecutive Players Championship events—his qualification for the Euro Tour shows promise. Ricardo Pietreczko, affectionately known as ‘Pikachu’, has also had a slow start to the season but showed signs of form recently, reaching the last 16 and quarterfinals at the Rosmalen floor events. This marks his fourth Euro Tour appearance of the year, though he's yet to progress past the second round.
Gian van Veen vs. Rene Eidams
Gian van Veen made headlines in March with a Players Championship title and a runner-up finish, but has struggled to maintain that level. A semi-final run at PC12 was a bright spot, though his form has since dipped. Rene Eidams makes his 13th Euro Tour appearance but has never reached the third round. The German has been knocked out in the first round six times and the second round six times.
Mensur Suljovic vs. Krzysztof Ratajski
Originally listed as the third reserve, Mensur Suljovic earned a spot in the draw following three withdrawals. Once a Euro Tour stalwart from 2016 to 2021, the Austrian has been a sporadic presence in recent years, playing only one event each in 2023 and 2024. This is his first Euro Tour appearance of the season. Krzysztof Ratajski secured his place through the Tour Card qualifier and will be hoping to improve on his first-round exit at the International Darts Open earlier this year.
Raymond van Barneveld vs. Michael Rosenauer
Raymond van Barneveld returns to the oche after a promising run at the previous Euro Tour, where he reached the final day but missed three match darts to make the quarterfinals. The draw offers a favourable opportunity to advance, as he faces Host Nation Qualifier Michael Rosenauer. The German veteran is playing his first Euro Tour since 2020, having also competed in the inaugural Euro Tour event back in 2012.
Jermaine Wattimena vs. Michael Unterbuchner
It’s another Netherlands vs. Germany battle as Jermaine Wattimena takes on Michael Unterbuchner. Wattimena has enjoyed a strong start to 2025, racking up £38,000 in prize money. However, his form has tapered slightly in recent weeks. Unterbuchner returns to the Euro Tour after an opening-round loss to Ross Smith at the European Darts Trophy in Göttingen last month.
Dirk van Duijvenbode vs. Andy Boulton
Dirk van Duijvenbode continues to search for consistency as he looks to convert flashes of top form into deep tournament runs. ‘The Aubergenius’ has shown signs of improvement and hopes this event can give his confidence a further boost. For Andy Boulton, this is his first Euro Tour appearance since 2023. The Scotsman has enjoyed success on the European circuit before, notably reaching the semifinals in 2018.
Martin Schindler vs. Mario Vandenbogaerde
German fans will have their eyes firmly on Martin Schindler as he begins his campaign. However, Mario Vandenbogaerde is in excellent form, having recently recorded wins over top-tier opponents like Luke Humphries, Michael van Gerwen, Cameron Menzies, and Callan Rydz. Despite this, a standout result still eludes him. The Belgian has reached the last 16 on the Pro Tour three times this season—already surpassing his 2024 tally.
Mike De Decker vs. Johan Engström
The first round wraps up with Mike De Decker facing Johan Engström, a qualifier from the Nordic & Baltic region. De Decker impressed with a finals appearance at the Belgian Darts Open earlier this season and followed it up with second and third-round finishes in subsequent Euro Tour events. Engström makes his 11th Euro Tour appearance, but has yet to make a significant impact, having lost in the first round eight times and the second round twice.
TV Guide
The tournament will be broadcast by PDC TV. As usual with Euro Tour tournaments, the German Darts Grand Prix consists of three tournament days. The afternoon sessions start daily at 12 p.m., while the evening sessions start at 6 p.m.
The first round will take place on Saturday. The 16 Pro Tour players are then paired with one of the 16 players who managed to get through the various qualifying tournaments. The top-16 seeded players enter the tournament on Sunday in the second round. The denouement of the tournament follows on Monday, with the third round first in the afternoon session. Monday night the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals will follow.
Distribution of prize money
All participants starting from the first round are guaranteed £1250 in prize money, while the top-16 enter from the second round and receive £2,500 anyway. This amount eventually rises to the grand prize of £30,000 for the winner.
An important detail is that players who are automatically seeded via the Order of Merit and lose their first match will not be awarded prize money on the various rankings. This does apply to qualifiers who are later designated as seeded by the withdrawal of others.
