A delightful line-up is on the program Saturday night for the final matches of the second round of the German Darts Championship. No fewer than nine (former) major winners will be in action at the Euro Tour tournament in Hildesheim.
We begin the evening with the man responsible for the elimination of Raymond van Barneveld on Friday night. Dom Taylor proved too strong for the Dutchman, 6-2, forcing a duel with Dave Chisnall. 'Chizzy' is seeded first at this tournament due to his strong performance on the Euro Tour in 2023, but is still waiting for his first Euro Tour final this year.
Max Hopp made a successful return to the Euro Tour on Friday night. For "The Maximiser," it was his first Euro Tour entry since April 2022. Hopp managed to add extra color to this moment by defeating Jose de Sousa 6-2. It earned him a meeting with former Masters champion Joe Cullen.

Then it's the turn of Gerwyn Price and Michael van Gerwen, respectively. These men who are still looking for their first ranking title of the season. Both Van Gerwen and Price have already lost a Euro Tour final once in 2024. For both, this is the ideal time to make their calling card heading into the busy fall season. Price will take on Krzysztof Ratajski, who won 6-3 over Dragutin Horvat in the first round of the German Darts Championship. James Wade will be Michael van Gerwen's opponent after 'The Machine' dealt with Maik Kuivenhoven (6-3) in the opening round.
Mensur Suljovic recorded a resounding 6-2 victory over Dimitri van den Bergh in the first round, allowing 'The Gentle' to take on Martin Schindler in the second round. For Suljovic this is his first Euro Tour tournament of the season, where he gained important pounds on Friday night to retain his Tour Card later this year. Schindler has played all Euro Tours so far this year and achieved the biggest success of his career at the International Darts Open by winning this tournament. He also reached two more semifinals on the Euro Tour in 2024.
Ricardo Pietreczko begins his hunt for title prolongation at the German Darts Championship on Saturday night. The defending champion begins his tournament against Simon Whitlock, who recorded a hard-fought 6-4 victory over Callan Rydz in the first round. Pietreczko became the second German winner ever on the Euro Tour last year by successively beating Mickey Mansell (6-4), Martin Schindler (6-2), George Killington (6-2), Stephen Bunting (6-4), Michael van Gerwen (7-6) and Peter Wright (8-4).
Peter Wright had a tough go in the first round on Friday night. The two-time world champion had to pull out all the stops to beat the talented German dart player Niko Springer 8-4. This allows 'Snakebite' to take on Stephen Bunting for a spot in the last sixteen of this tournament.
The final match of the second round is between Luke Littler and Dylan Slevin. The latter won 6-4 over Steve Beaton in the first round. Littler played four Euro Tours this season, two of which he managed to win. However, after his second triumph in Austria at the end of April, he played only one more Euro Tour event. It was not a great success, because then he lost in the first round to Wessel Nijman. The last two Euro Tours skipped "The Nuke. Especially in the absence of world champion Luke Humphries, the 17-year-old Littler is considered the man to beat in Hildesheim.
The German Darts Championship will be broadcast on PDC TV. As usual with Euro Tour tournaments, the German Darts Championship consists of three tournament days. The afternoon sessions start daily at 12:00, while the evening sessions start at 18:00.
The first round will take place on Friday. The 16 Order of Merit qualifiers and the winners from the various qualifying tournaments then make their appearance. The top-16 seeded players enter the tournament on Saturday in the second round. Sunday will see the denouement of the tournament, starting with the third round in the afternoon session. Sunday evening will be followed by the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals.
At this Euro Tour tournament, a total of £175,000 in prize money will be divided among the 48 participants. They will receive at least 1250 pounds in starting money. The top-16 seeded players who enter the German Darts Championship from the second round will receive 2,500 pounds anyway.
They do - like the 16 Order of Merit qualifiers starting in the first round - have to win their first match in order for the prize money to count toward the world rankings and the other rankings. The winner of the German Darts Championship 2024 will ultimately go home with the top prize of 30,000 pounds.
