A delightful lineup is on the program Saturday night in the final matches of the second round of the Swiss Darts Trophy 2024. Among others, three Dutchmen make their appearance in the St. Jakobshalle in Basel, but also the finalists of the past World Darts Championship will be in action.
This is the first time the PDC has hosted a tournament in Switzerland. Earlier this year, Euro Tour tournaments were played in Belgium, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and Hungary. Later this year, another event will be completed in the Czech Republic.
The evening session begins with a friendly between Martin Schindler and Anton Östlund. The latter was responsible for the elimination of Dirk van Duijvenbode in the first round on Friday night.
Furthermore, we also get to see a city derby in Basel. Stephen Bunting and Michael Smith are both from the English village of St. Helens and they will decide between themselves who joins the last sixteen.
Gerwyn Price lost at his last four Euro Tours each time in the second. 'The Iceman' gets the chance against James Wade to end this negative run. 'The Machine' already has one match behind him at the Swiss Darts Trophy. Wade won against Dimitri van den Bergh in the first round.
Richard Veenstra is the first Dutchman we will see on Saturday night. 'Flyers' almost lost a 5-0 lead against Peter Wright on Friday night, and eventually scored a hard-fought 6-5 victory. It earned him a clash against reigning world champion Luke Humphries, who himself was directly admitted to the second round.
Teenage sensation Luke Littler may also show his skills at the oche. He will meet Swiss qualifier Bruno Stöckli, who surprisingly won 6-3 over Krzysztof Ratajski on Friday afternoon.
Raymond van Barneveld made a strong impression at the Swiss Darts Trophy on Friday. Thanks to an average of 102.47, he beat Joe Cullen 6-2. The 57-year-old Dutchman will play Ricardo Pietreczko in the second round. Pietreczko did compete at the Pro Tours in Leicester this week, but was unable to break even, posting an average of just 68. With a win over Pietreczko, 'Barney' can also take a big step towards qualification for the European Championship later this year.
Nathan Aspinall is another player who needs a good result in the qualifying race for the European Championship. In fact, 'The Asp' is currently outside the virtual field of participants. After his 6-3 victory over Marcel Walpen, Aspinall crosses swords with Dave Chisnall, who has already won two PDC titles this month.
In the final match of the evening it is Wessel Nijman's turn. After his strong 6-0 victory over Luke Woodhouse, the Dutchman may try for a stunt against Chris Dobey.

TV and live stream

The Swiss Darts Trophy will be broadcast on PDC TV. As usual with Euro Tour tournaments, the Swiss Darts Trophy consists of three tournament days. The afternoon sessions start on Friday and Saturday at 12:00, while the evening sessions then start at 18:00. On Sunday, the sessions start at 11:00 and 17:00.
The first round will take place on Friday. The 16 Order of Merit qualifiers and the winners from the various qualifying tournaments then make their appearance. The top-16 seeded players enter the tournament on Saturday in the second round. Sunday will see the denouement of the tournament, starting with the third round in the afternoon session. Sunday evening will be followed by the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals.

Distribution of prize money

At this Euro Tour tournament, a total of £175,000 in prize money will be divided among the 48 participants. They will receive at least 1250 pounds in starting money. The top-16 seeded players who enter the Swiss Darts Trophy from the second round will receive 2,500 pounds anyway.
They do - like the 16 Order of Merit qualifiers starting in the first round - have to win their first match in order for the prize money to count toward the world rankings and the other rankings. The winner of the Swiss Darts Trophy ultimately goes home with the top prize of 30,000 pounds.
