Eight men are still in the race for overall victory at the 2024
German Darts Championship in Hildesheim. Sunday night is the conclusion of this
European Tour tournament with the quarterfinals, semifinals and final in succession.
Four men in the last eight have won the German Darts Championship before.
Michael van Gerwen (2015, 2018 and 2022) is the only player to have won this event more than once.
Dave Chisnall (2013),
Peter Wright (2017) and
Daryl Gurney (2019) also have this tournament on their record.
The first quarterfinal on Sunday night will be between Dave Chisnall and
Martin Schindler. 'Chizzy' joined the last eight by defeating Dom Taylor (6-3) and Joe Cullen (6-0), while Schindler dealt with Mensur Suljovic (6-4) and Chris Dobey (6-4).
The top affair of the quarter-finals, however, is the meeting between Michael van Gerwen and Peter Wright, who face each other for the 107th time in their careers. The balance is heavily in Van Gerwen's favor, winning 77 times. Van Gerwen secured a spot in the quarter-finals after big wins over James Wade (6-2) and Danny Noppert (6-2). Wright recorded handsome wins over Niko Springer (6-4), Stephen Bunting (6-5) and Gian van Veen (6-4).
Daryl Gurney and
Nick Kenny will determine who will be the third semifinalist. Kenny stunned on Sunday afternoon against defending champion Ricardo Pietreczko (6-5), having previously defeated Jelle Klaasen (6-3) and Ross Smith (6-5). Gurney eliminated Stephen Burton (6-1) and Krzysztof Ratajski (6-2) earlier this tournament.
In the final quarterfinals,
Luke Littler and
Damon Heta will cross swords. Heta picked up a big win against Littler earlier this year at the UK Open, but at their two Euro Tour clashes in 2024, victory went to Littler. Moreover, 'The Nuke' also managed to win the tournament each time he eliminated Heta along the way. The 17-year-old Englishman made it to the last eight by defeating Dylan Slevin (6-0) and Ryan Searle (6-2). Heta defeated Ritchie Edhouse (6-2) and Andrew Gilding (6-4) in his first two duels.
TV and live stream
The German Darts Championship will be broadcast on
PDC TV. As usual with Euro Tour tournaments, the German Darts Championship consists of three tournament days. The afternoon sessions start daily at 12:00, while the evening sessions start at 18:00.
The first round will take place on Friday. The 16 Order of Merit qualifiers and the winners from the various qualifying tournaments then make their appearance. The top-16 seeded players enter the tournament on Saturday in the second round. Sunday will see the denouement of the tournament, starting with the third round in the afternoon session. Sunday evening will be followed by the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals.
Distribution of prize money
At this Euro Tour tournament, a total of £175,000 in prize money will be divided among the 48 participants. They will receive at least 1250 pounds in starting money. The top-16 seeded players who enter the German Darts Championship from the second round will receive 2,500 pounds anyway.
They do - like the 16 Order of Merit qualifiers starting in the first round - have to win their first match to have the prize money count towards the world rankings and the other rankings. The winner of the German Darts Championship 2024 will ultimately go home with the top prize of £30,000.
