Sunday night it's time for the apotheosis of the
Austrian Darts Open 2025 in Graz. Already it is certain that at the fifth Euro Tour tournament of 2025 we are also going to get a fifth different winner
The Austrian Darts Open was once the first Euro Tour tournament to be held. Justin Pipe crowned himself winner of the very first Euro Tour event in PDC history in 2012. Michael van Gerwen (2013) and Vincent van der Voort (2014) then provided Dutch successes in Austria before Phil Taylor won the 2016 edition. Van Gerwen eventually triumphed four times, as he also picked up wins in 2017, 2019 and 2022. Jonny Clayton was the best in 2018 and 2023, while Littler ran away with the title in 2024.

We begin the finals session with a Northern Irish showdown. Daryl Gurney previously won by wide margins over Mensur Suljovic (6-1) and Jermaine Wattimena (6-1), while Rock was responsible for eliminating Krzysztof Ratajski (6-4) and Danny Noppert (6-5).
For Rock, it is already the fifteenth time he has been in the finals of a Euro Tour tournament, three of them this season. Twice he eventually made it to the final, with Rock finally standing with the cup in his hands at the Dutch Dart Championship in 2024. For Gurney, it is his 22nd quarterfinal and 'Superchin' has also won a Euro Tour before. He was the best at the German Darts Championship in 2019.
It will be only the second showdown between the two Northern Irishmen on the PDC circuit. The first was at the 2023 European Darts Championship. Then the victory went 6-2 to Gurney.
Martin Schindler v Chris Dobey
These two men also won in the third round from a Dutchman. Martin Schindler was trailing 5-2 against Kevin Doets, but still managed to outsmart 'Hawk Eye'. Earlier, Schindler triumphed 6-3 against Matthew Dennant. Chris Dobey followed up his 6-1 win over Ricardo Pietreczko with a 6-1 victory over Wessel Nijman.
Dobey has not been in the last eight on the Euro Tour very often. This is only his fifth time. In fact, the world number ten is the highest ranked player in the world who has never won a Euro Tour. Schindler even managed to do so twice in 2024, and Schindler's tally now stands at 16 quarter-finals.
In the head-to-head, Schindler leads 6-4 against Dobey. Dobey won three of the first four mutual encounters in 2017 and 2018, after which Schindler won no less than five times in a row from the Englishman. Dobey managed to win the last confrontation in September 2024.
Dirk van Duijvenbode v Ross Smith
Dirk van Duijvenbode was the only one of five Dutchmen to survive the third round on Sunday afternoon. After a superior start, 'Aubergenius' led 5-0 against Matt Campbell, but in the end Van Duijvenbode pulled out the win with difficulty, 6-4. He did throw an average of over 100 for the third match in a row, after Van Duijvenbode also did so against György Jehirszki (6-1 with 106.18 average) and Gian van Veen (6-1 with 108.66 average). Ross Smith triumphed earlier in the tournament against Chris Landman (6-1) and Peter Wright (6-5).
It is the first time this season that Van Duijvenbode has reached the last eight on the Euro Tour. He accomplished this feat 11 times before and twice the Dutchman finished as a losing finalist, both in 2023. Smith just lost his two finals in 2024. For him, it will be his thirteenth Euro Tour quarterfinal, and his fourth of the season.
Van Duijvenbode and Smith have already played seven matches against each other, and unusually, they met twice at the World Darts Championship. Both duels were won after a cracker by Van Duijvenbode, who leads 5-2 in the mutual balance.
Damon Heta v Ryan Joyce
In the final quarterfinals of the evening, Damon Heta and Ryan Joyce face each other. The spell seems to have been broken for Joyce, who before 2025 had never reached the last eight on the Euro Tour. He is now in his third quarterfinal in a row after reaching the final of the European Darts Trophy. Heta has reached the final stage of the Euro Tour many times before. For him it is already his sixteenth quarterfinal, and in 2022 he won the Gibraltar Darts Trophy.
Joyce qualified for the quarterfinals by beating Teemu Harju (6-4), Ryan Searle (6-1) and Dave Chisnall (6-3) in succession. Heta settled with Karel Sedlacek (6-5) and Joe Cullen (6-5).
Heta has a dramatic record against Joyce. The Englishman erased no fewer than seven of eight clashes won. The most appealing one, however, went to Heta. 'The Heat' defeated Joyce in a Players Championship final in 2023.
TV Guide
The tournament will be broadcast by PDC TV. As usual with Euro Tour tournaments, the Austrian Darts Open consists of three tournament days. The afternoon sessions start daily at 12 p.m., while the evening sessions start at 6 p.m.
The first round will take place on Friday. The 16 Pro Tour players are then paired with one of the 16 players who managed to get through the various qualifying tournaments. The top-16 seeded players enter the tournament on Saturday in the second round. On Sunday, the denouement of the tournament will follow, starting with the third round in the afternoon session. Sunday night the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals will follow.
Distribution of prize money
All participants starting from the first round are guaranteed £1250 in prize money, while the top-16 enter from the second round and receive £2,500 anyway. This amount eventually rises to the grand prize of £30,000 for the winner.
An important detail is that players who are automatically seeded via the Order of Merit and lose their first match will not be awarded prize money on the various rankings. This does apply to qualifiers who are later designated as seeded by the withdrawal of others.
