The treasurer of the Darts Regulation Authority (DRA) is working overtime this month. The disciplinary committee may issue another fine after
Matt Campbell was caught Sunday making an obscene gesture.
Campbell played Sunday afternoon in the third round of the
Austrian Darts Open against Dirk van Duijvenbode, after 'The Ninja' had won handsomely over Patrick Geeraets (6-5) and Stephen Bunting (6-4) in the first two rounds.
In the last sixteen, however, he encountered an unleashed Van Duijvenbode, who took a 5-0 lead with an average of well over 110. The sixth leg went to Campbell, who then had the opportunity to hit 107 to win the seventh leg.
However, Campbell missed the double and was so outraged about it after he decided to raise his middle finger to the dartboard. Five missed match darts by Van Duijvenbode meant the leg went to the Canadian moments later. Campbell would later come back to 5-4 before Van Duijvenbode took the win with a 125 finish.
It is the second time this month that a dart player has been discredited for raising a middle finger. Scott Williams made the same gesture at the German Darts Grand Prix last week after a fan in the audience called out insulting words to him.
Nathan Aspinall also appears to be facing a fine, after he could not hide his anger at the quality of the dartboards at a Players Championship tournament earlier this month lamenting the dart boards.
