As round two got underway at the 2023
Hungarian Darts Trophy, the first three men to ensure their return on Sunday afternoon are
Martin Schindler,
Danny Noppert and
Rowby-John Rodriguez.
In the first game of the day, Schindler took on
Sebastian Bialecki. Although the Pole impressed in victory on Friday, he struggled to replicate that kind of form in this one. Schindler, who himself hasn't been hitting his highest level of late raced into a 5-0 lead early on. Bialecki managed to get one leg back but there was no comeback as Schindler ran out a 6-1 winner with an impressive 100.17 average.
Next up, Danny Noppert had the potentially tricky tie of
European Tour debutant Anton Ostlund, who looked very impressive in victory over Vladimir Andersen on Friday. In a tight game, both players were holding firm on their own throw before Noppert managed to get that vital break and nudge ahead at 5-4. With Noppert unable to capitalise though, Ostlund pinned double 19 to break straight back and force a deciding leg. Despite having the advantage of throw however, the Swede couldn't get over the line and it was Noppert who progressed 6-5.
Thirdly,
Ryan Searle took on Rowby-John Rodriguez. In another tight contest, both players looked well matched early on. It was the Austrian who got the all important break of throw though to nudge in front at 3-2. And that did prove decisive as every other leg in the match was held, seeing Rodriguez through into the next round.
