The 30th and final Players Championship tournament of the season gets under way at 1pm this afternoon at the Mattioli Arena in Leicester. There are 128 players competing in the final Pro Tour event of the season, with plenty at stake at the race for World Darts Championship qualification goes down to the wire.

Although big names such as Michael van Gerwen, Luke Humphries, Gerwyn Price, Ryan Searle and Luke Littler also did not travel to Leicester. World class players such as Michael Smith, Rob Cross, Dave Chisnall, Nathan Aspinall, James Wade, Peter Wright and Gary Anderson do make a bid for the day's victory.

Sadly, yesterday's losing finalist Stephen Bunting, who fell to Cameron Menzies in the final of Players Championship 29, is another name forced to drop out of this final event of the 2024 Pro Tour. "Sadly I have had to withdraw from today’s last Players Championship. My partner who is due to give birth next week hasn’t been feeling very well these last 24 hours," The Bullet wrote on his social media. "Extremely disappointed not to be available to try and maintain my position as top seed of players champs finals order of merit."

A total of 125,000 pounds in prize money is distributed at each Players Championship tournament. The winner of the event will receive a check for 15,000 pounds.
