The Nordic Darts Masters continues with man of the moment, Michael Smith continuing his sensational form as of late as he went through the gears against the sole Danish Tour Card holder, Vladimir Andersen.
Losing out 6-2, Andersen had his chances to make it 4-3 in particular and push ‘Bully Boy’ but the break chances kept being spurned and the St Helens ace found his way through to a tie with Fallon Sherrock tomorrow afternoon.
Smith hit a 16-darter to begin the tie with a hold. Andersen produced a maximum and celebrated in kind before producing two double eight’s en route to a 48 checkout for 1-1.
A 180 and a 143 to leave 32 after nine though saw Smith reply with some true brilliance as he went 2-1 up.
Andersen was first to a finish but Smith hit a 180 to leave double 20 with the Dane needing 132 which he couldn’t pin. Three darts went begging for Smith but 80 couldn’t be pinned by Andersen and Smith helped himself to a 3-1 lead and a break.
Smith missed 161 for a 4-1 lead but returned to hold and go two away from victory. Andersen held to make it 4-2. He had a great chance to break back but spurned multiple opportunities and Smith held on double one to make it 5-2. A fourth maximum and a 101 checkout on double 18 sealed it for ‘Bully Boy’.
While he was joined by Gerwyn Price who was 2-1 down in the early running against Brian Løkken with the crowd erupting as he took a break and an early lead.
But that was as good as it got as Price reeled off five legs on the spin to seal his spot in the Quarter-Finals despite not being at his best with just a 90 average.
