Michael Smith starts this year's
World Matchplay for the first time as the first series leader. In the opening round, he will take on Steve Beaton.
Smith has never managed to win this tournament, he did come close in 2019 when he lost 18-13 to Rob Cross in the final.
"I know I've got a bigger target on my back now being World Number One as well but as long as I do my job, I should be fine," he said on Sky Sports.
"I've won the Grand Slam and the World's now I want my triple crown. The Matchplay is my third favourite event."
"This is the strongest field we've had. The Women look outstanding too with Fallon (Sherrock) and Beau (Greaves) so expect some fireworks.
