The eighth night of play in the Premier League Darts in Newcastle was again dominated by Luke Littler. He once again proved why he was currently considered the best dart player in the world. After an excellent quarterfinal, Littler did not have to show his best game in the remainder to take his fourth weekly title of the season.
The evening started spectacularly with Littler beating Stephen Bunting without conceding a leg to make an instant statement. Rob Cross surprised by easily brushing aside Gerwyn Price, while Luke Humphries dealt with Chris Dobey. The most exciting quarterfinal was between Michael van Gerwen and Nathan Aspinall, in which the Dutchman went down narrowly.
In the semifinals, Littler stayed the course and eliminated Cross with a solid 6-3 victory. At the other end of the schedule, Humphries had a tougher time against Aspinall, but with a strong average of 106.73, he managed to decide the match in his favor.
The final was a one-sided battle in which Littler again prevailed. Despite a lower average than in previous rounds, he had no trouble beating Humphries 6-1. This gave him his fourth evening victory of the season and strengthened his leading position.
Littler leads the rankings with 26 points, a whopping eight points more than number two Humphries. This is followed by another gap to number three. This spot is held by Van Gerwen, who is on thirteen points. This was followed by Price and Cross with 12 points, while Aspinall collected 10 points. Dobey (five points) and Bunting (zero points) face a tough task to still make the playoffs.
