After
Stephen Bunting's 2-0 win against Northern Irish Brendan Dolan, Bunting was interviewed by 'Live Darts TV'. The Englishmen referenced his difficulty at the recent World Matchplay .
“Blackpool was a bit of a blip in my career, I put a lot of prep into Blackpool and I believe I played very well, Krzysztof just played fantastic”
Bunting may have seen difficulty in Blackpool however he left his 10-6 loss there and bounced straight back with a great start at the
World Grand Prix yesterday. The 37 year old had this to say after his win against Dolan.
“Obviously Brendan’s a hero in this event he hit a 9 darter he’s a history maker, but at the same time I’ve been a two time semifinalist”
“Any wins
always special, especially in front of a crowd. Obviously I’ve
got great memories from last year getting to the semi finals, I put a lot of
pressure on myself”
“I love the
double off, Its been well documented that I’ve played double off a lot in my life
and a lot in my local league where I used to play 301 double off. But yeah it
suits my sort of game and if I can hit my double off I’m dangerous”
“I’m
playing fantastic at the minute I really do believe in my ability and I believe
I can go all the way with it”
After his great start in Leicester, Bunting spoke about where he feels his ability is at the moment and how far he can go in the World Grand Prix.
“I'd
probably say I’m one of the most consistent on the tour, you look at my
averages I would say its 90’s now, where as a few years ago it’d be 80 odd then
maybe a 100 then a 90. I’m always around the same mark this year”
“I actually
feel I’m better than last year. Consistency wise I’m definitely there or there
abouts”
“There’s
been a few changes at home I’m starting to practice again and I’m starting to love
the game again”
“I’ve had
some hard luck this year and I’ve rose from the dead a bit like Tyson Fury, who knows
where it could go, I believe in myself. I believe I can win any tournament”
'The Bullet' will now go up against Peter Wright in the next round, this is what Bunting had to say when he was asked about he felt he would fair against his potential opponents (at the time of interview).
“Who? Who?
No listen its going to be tough but at the same time they’re not playing the
Stephen Bunting from a 3/4 years ago they’re playing the Stephen Bunting from
now”
“No matter
who I play its going to be a tough game and I’ll prepare accordingly. I want to
be back playing in the Premier League I want to be back with the elite”
