Glen Durrant has revealed he once offered
Adrian Lewis as much as £5,000 to take over the iconic walk-on song Pigbag. The former Premier League champion desperately wanted to continue walking onto the stage to the track, but Lewis refused to give up the music that had become inseparable from his career.
Durrant used Pigbag by Perfecto Allstarz for years during his time in the BDO. It became the trademark walk-on anthem of "Duzza", who was one of the biggest attractions at Lakeside throughout his successful spell.
However, when the Englishman switched to the PDC in 2019, a problem emerged. Adrian Lewis was already using the same song on the professional circuit. The two-time world champion had made Pigbag his signature entrance music, forcing Durrant to find an alternative.
That proved far from easy. Durrant was even prepared to dig deep into his own pocket to persuade Lewis to hand over the song, claiming he offered his fellow Englishman £5,000.
"Thank God he did say no"
In the end, the deal never happened, and Pump It Up by Endor became Durrant's new walk-on music. While that song would later become synonymous with the greatest success of his PDC career, his original anthem still holds a special place in his heart.
"That walk-on is so important so to hear it was Pump It Up, yes it brought me back to the Premier League but Pigbag for me will always be my walk-on," he said as per Oche.
Looking back, though, Durrant is relieved Lewis rejected his unusual proposal. "£5k (he offered Lewis). Thank God he did say no because literally 12 months later I couldn't hit the dartboard."
Adrian Lewis won two world titles
Durrant won the 2020 Premier League Darts title, the crowning achievement of his career.
He also now admits that the song rightfully belongs to Lewis. "Jackpot" used it throughout the most successful years of his career, and for many PDC fans the tune is instantly associated with the two-time world champion. "In hindsight if you hear that song you think Adie Lewis. The BDO stalwarts might remember me doing it [but] it rightly belongs to Lewis."
A brilliant breakthrough that didn't last
In hindsight, Durrant did not need his old walk-on music to make an impact in the PDC. After joining the organisation in 2019, the Middlesbrough thrower quickly proved he could compete with the very best.
He reached the semi-finals of both the Grand Slam of Darts and the World Matchplay, won two Players Championship titles, and produced the finest moment of his career by lifting the Premier League trophy.
His time among the elite ultimately proved short-lived. Following those major successes, Durrant suffered a dramatic decline in form. The following year he failed to reach a single major quarter-final, and his results continued to deteriorate. In 2022, the former BDO star decided to bring his professional darts career to an end. He now works as a
pundit and commentator for Sky Sports as well as doing coaching.
