Beau Greaves is set to start her second Grand Slam of Darts campaign later this afternoon. The 20-year-old Englishwoman finished top of the PDC Women's Series and therefore gets to compete in Wolverhampton. Last year, she only narrowly failed to qualify for the knockout stage after losing 5-4 to Damon Heta in her final group match.
It will be Greaves' only participation in a PDC major this year. Despite qualifying for the World Darts Championship at the Alexandra Palace in December, she has opted instead to defend again her Women's World Championship under the WDF banner at the Lakeside. "I've had conversations with Beau, I've had conversations with her management team as well. Her management team are very level headed and they've managed her career perfectly," says Matthew Edgar, how himself has hopes of winning the upcoming WDF World Championship at Lakeside, on the Sky Sports' Love the Darts podcast. "It's very easy to get too excited too quickly and go 'Lets get to Q-School! Lets get on the Tour!' Because that Tour can eat you alive very quickly and it doesn't matter who you are or how good you are."
Greaves has repeatedly indicated that she actually does not like playing against men, nor does she consider herself good enough to compete on a constant basis with the current pros in the PDC. "Does Beau run herself down? Yes!" Edgar says. "I think she's better than she thinks she is. However, the fact that she doesn't think she is at that level, she is also correct. Because if she doesn't feel at that level she's going to go there nervous, edgy and we know she's had problems in the past in regards to dartitis. That could flare up again very quickly if she doesn't believe she can compete at that level."

"She is slowly integrating into open gender darts, rather than women's specific. We've seen her on the Development Tour this year and she's had success, at the MODUS Super Series where she had amazing success and was breaking records!" Edgar concludes. "The 180 hitting of Beau Greaves is some of the best in the world, not just in the women's sport. However, that's us again getting over excited. In women's darts, she has the chance to write a legacy as the best women's dart player of all time."
Greaves starts Saturday's Grand Slam of Darts and will take on Danny Noppert, Martin Schindler and Cameron Menzies in her group. The top two qualify for the knockout stage.
