The Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) has announced that prize money on the PDC tour will rise to an unprecedented £25 million a year from the PDC World Darts Championship. This historic increase has been received with enthusiasm by Alan Warriner-Little, president of the Professional Darts Players Association (PDPA).
In addition to significant increases for the major PDC tournaments, including as much as £1 million for the World Champion, this increase will be implemented at all levels within the PDC circuit. Floor tournaments such as the Players Championship tournaments, Development Tour events, Challenge Tour tournaments and Women's Series tournaments will also see increases. This means that not only the absolute top, but also the lower ranked players will benefit from this financial boost.
Warriner-Little, who was on the oche himself more than 30 years ago as one of the founders of the PDC, is now actively involved with the PDPA and is committed to the interests of professional darters.
"This is incredible by the PDC," said Warriner-Little as per PDC. "The players should be ecstatic with this, as we are."
He stressed that this increase will especially benefit lower-ranked players. "This increase will give our members more prize funds to gain, particularly the lower-ranked players.
According to Warriner-Little, the sport of darts is currently in an unprecedented growth phase. "Our sport is in an unbelievable place at the moment and this announcement will no doubt increase that stature. Everyone wants to know about darts, and the top players are pop stars!
Finally, he urged the players to prepare to the fullest for what is to come. "Our members should be on the dartboard even more getting ready for this in 2026. When we look back to how we started and to where we are now is truly amazing."
