Michael Smith scraped back from 5-2 down to see off Daniel Klose 6-5 at the European Darts Grand Prix but it was his attitude that garnered an apology on social media post match from 'Bully Boy'.
Smith won the match in a decider with Klose unable to take advantage and the St Helens ace threw his last dart after he pinned the double with some venom right at the board causing the number ring to fall off.
In the comments, fans called for Smith to be fined by the DRA and called out his attitude but as Smith said himself that while he has no excuses for how he acted, he has a reason.
He said that he is going through some family issues which have now been sorted with their dog and also his ongoing shoulder and wrist injuries which have hampered him in recent months. He moves into the Final Day, he now faces Luke Humphries or Connor Scutt.
"Just would like to apologise for my attitude in that game. There’s no excuses but my head is fried. From struggling the way I am with my shoulder and wrist to last night getting a phone call off my wife and kids crying as they thought our dog (Luna) was dying so was a late run to the emergency vets and staying awake till 3am so I could stay in contact with them and trying to comfort them," wrote Smith on his personal Facebook which was then shared on his fanpage.
"But thankfully she seems ok now and we don’t know what was wrong with her as she looked possessed with her legs not working and her head twisting like a bird with bird flu. But we go again tomorrow now and with a clear head hopefully and a better and more mature performance so once again I apologise."
