Ricky Evans utterly thrashed Nathan Aspinall who won only three legs in a 3-0 whitewash as the World Matchplay champion was sent packing at the 2023/24 PDC World Darts Championship.
Evans spoke throughout about finally doing something on the Alexandra Palace stage and he did so and proved that he isn't just a gimmick as he put it with his superb walk-ons and getting the crowd on side.

"As soon as I saw the schedule, I thought I could be the one who wins the last game before Christmas and I did what I dreamt of doing. If I play well I can win and I did a little bit there. It's just beating someone like Nathan Aspinall wow, he's a major champion and I want to be him," said Evans post match.
"A lot of people see me on stage like oh he walks on with a mask, he walks on with a gimmick. I love making people laugh and smile but I can throw darts. I'm one of the best darts players in the world. Tonight I showed a bit of it. There's another gear yet.
But also he said that pundits who dub him as either superb or average also added fuel to the fire and gave him the extra motivation with a lot of the pre-match build-up pointing towards Aspinall rightfully or wrongfully.
"I tried to prove the pundits wrong instead of just doing what I do. What I do is darts, I'm a good dart player. I could say this and lose 4-0 now but I can't wait."
"In the World Series it did as they said he's either good or bang average. I thought I'm better than that. One day I will do something here."
