"This weekend I think I was unstoppable": Van Gerwen brushes off surgery concerns with sensational Poland Darts Masters win

Michael van Gerwen played through the pain barrier after recent dental surgery to seal the inaugural Poland Darts Masters with some of his best displays all year.

Van Gerwen defeated Dimitri van den Bergh in the final 8-3 with a staggering 113.22 average, the highest ever in a World Series final.

He was in a superb mood all day brushing aside Luke Humphries with a 110 average and hitting 104 in seeing off Michael Smith.

Dimitri van den Bergh who was celebrating his birthday was a mere roadblock from there on and despite the surgery, MVG leaves Warsaw happy and confident after a tough few weeks.

“I’ve just come back from surgery and I’ve had a really tough couple of weeks,” reflected Van Gerwen.

“You have to stand up and you have to battle. I always say if I am competing in something, I want to win it, and this feels amazing.

“Dimitri played well in the final, but this weekend I think I was unstoppable.

“Fair play to all the Polish darts fans. Honestly, I didn’t expect this. The atmosphere blew me away, and I hope I can come back here next year.”
