Thornton confirmed as 20th player for World Seniors Darts Championship

Robert Thornton has been announced as the twentieth player to take part in the Seniors World Darts Championship, a tournament that will be held in early 2022 for famous darts players over the age of 50.

The 53-year-old Thornton is still an active player and his participation is possible on condition that he does not regain his PDC Tour Card in January. The Scot lost his Tour Card after last season, but has expressed his ambition to return to the PDC circuit.

The Thorn experienced the heyday of his career in the previous decade, winning the UK Open (2012) and World Grand Prix (2015). In 2013, 2014 and 2016, Thornton competed in the Premier League Darts.

In the near future, the organisation will give two more wildcards to players who have made special achievements on the darts circuit in the past.

The two remaining spots will be made available during a qualification tournament in November 2021. More information about this tournament is not yet known. The first edition of the World Senior Championships will be played in early 2022. An exact date is not confirmed yet.
