After a tumultuous few years on the oche after emerging in the PDC as the Premier League champion back in 2020,
Glen Durrant has retired from professional darts after losing his Tour Card following the World Championship Qualifier on Monday.
Durrant joined the PDC in 2019 defeating Matthew Dennant in a match that is often talked about in darting circles as the match that could've ended his journey before it even began at
Q-School.
But on joining the PDC after becoming three-time World Champion and winning everything in the BDO before its demise, he made his first PDC final two days in to being a Tour Card holder before claiming his first title in only the fourth event of the season.
Sealing his second, he then went on to reach the World Matchplay semi-finals in his debut year before reaching the Quarter-Finals on his PDC World Championship debut. The following year saw much fanfare as 'Duzza' made it to the Premier League but it was both a dream debut and the start of his darting decline.
Losing in the fourth round of the World's that year, he went on to be selected again losing all nine matches before suffering defeats early in the rest of the majors including the World Matchplay and World Grand Prix as well as this year's World Championship.
Defending a lot of money this year, he went on a streak of 268 days without a win with many pointing towards his throw breaking down as the reason behind his sharp fall which he said recently to Online Darts was down to a mental issue which he said he has now addressed but ruled out Q-School if he did lose his Tour Card.
Today, he lost in the opening match of the qualifier to Jamie Clark in a 6-2 defeat with a 72 average and said on Twitter simply that he is 'no longer a professional darts player' and said that it's 'part relief, part incredible disappointment'.
While not confirmed as of yet, Durrant could yet play in the World Seniors but admitted in the same interview priorly mentioned that he would only play if he knew he could win.
Also as of late, he has prepared for a media career with appearances on the WDF coverage as well as recently the MODUS Super Series as well as taking up darts coaching. As he finished his tweet, a 'new chapter' now opens for the popular Teesside ace.Q
