In a career which has seen
Glen Durrant climb the highest mountain in winning the Lakeside World Championship three times and also the Premier League then came the lowest of lows.
Durrant is looking at losing his Tour Card and one of the low points came facing Davy Proosten and was 4-2 down and decided to quit which he said will always be one of his biggest regrets.
"That was a regret, I shouldn't have done that. I was still virtually in the game, I think I was 4-1, 4-2. That was just a side of me that disappoints me because I've never been a bottler and that's pretty much what I did. I was stupid and I was wrong that day," said Durrant to Online Darts.
Many have looked towards the technique of Durrant as the reason why this has happened and he said that a light bulb moment went off that it was a mental issue with his throw.
"A guy called Daniel Poole from Straight to the Point Darts, he did an original video for me which my nephew Jamie Durrant he sent me it but I wasn't prepared to work with him too much, I was like yeah I'll sort it out but technically I would bring my dart forward and then I'd let my dart go but my elbow was doing some crazy stuff, it was dropping, it was up in the air. So this was doing this but my brain was telling me I was pulling that back.
"It got to the point where I'd practiced 12 months incorrectly that you get so many bad habits, it was tough. It's been a torrid time, it's ok when you're on the high. The only thing that upsets me is that I didn't mind walking down the mountain of a decline in my game, it was the fact it was a freefall."
But looking forward, the Players Championship Finals is not even in his mind with the World Championship his only goal.
"Minehead I'm not even thinking as I'm 123 out of 128. That's not on my mind, next week I'm going to play some match conditions. I'm probably going to contact Gabriel Clemens who I used to play a lot of online darts with. I'm at the stage where my technique feels good, what do I feel like. When I walk up to an oche at a ProTour, all my anxiety and fear comes to the front."
This in itself would also likely be a send off with Durrant having no plans for a
Q-School return.
"There's potential for the Seniors, I won't be going back to the WDF. I set my legacy at the Lakeside, the MODUS Super Series, there's options for me there. Coaching is going stratospheric. I've never thought of packing in."
"Unless I lose at the Ally Pally and I'm beginning at 90-100 average and enjoying it again. I haven't thought once about Q-School yet. The more bigger decision would be am I going to go to the Seniors and I'd only go if I thought I could win it."
