In 2016, after a long wait, the time had finally come. The PDC paid a visit to the Netherlands with the Premier League, at Ahoy Rotterdam to be precise. The final round of the regular competition was played in the Dutch port city.
In the last match of the evening Michael van Gerwen and Phil Taylor faced each other. The stake was the first place in the regular season, with a bonus of 25,000 pounds attached. In the end it was Van Gerwen who, under the watchful eye of thousands of enthusiastic fans, beat his big rival 7-5.
This Thursday, the Premier League Darts returns to Ahoy Rotterdam for the first time since 2019. Due to the corona pandemic, the competition was only played in the UK in 2020 and 2021.
