As always, the Premier League Darts lineup has caused plenty of discussion. This year though, a lot of the conversation has been led by disappointed to miss out, such as world number six Dave Chisnall and World Grand Prix champion Mike De Decker.
One of the selections that has caused the most controversy is that of Gerwyn Price, who by his own high standards, had a poor year in 2024. “Yeah I mean every player, Dave Chisnall, Mike De Decker, they always have their opinions," the Welsh former world champion reflects in conversation with TalkSport. “They are right to have a say, but the PDC put in who they want to put in."
"I think the likes of me and Nathan Aspinall have been consistent for the last 8-9 years throughout the PDC, not just the Premier League. I had a blip, and Nathan being injured, not being involved would have been a little bit harsh I think," Price continues. “Each to their own, I think winning one tournament or doing well in one event doesn’t really get you a ticket to get in. There's a couple of boys who have won majors and haven’t got in, so throwing your toys out of the pram doesn’t really work.”
As mentioned, Price didn't have the best year in 2024, but 2025 has already started strongly. The Iceman reached the final of the Bahrain Darts Masters earlier this week, beating Luke Littler with a record breaking 115+ average en route before losing out to Stephen Bunting.
"I've still got a good game, I'm practicing really well.bI'm playing well now, it just hasn't happened on stage last year. It only takes one tournament now," concludes the Welshman. "I'll be back then and flying again. So there is no reason I can't win the tournament."
