Van Barneveld hit his best European Tour average in six years during opening Munich win

Raymond van Barneveld came through a thrilling tie with Ian White in the first round of the German Darts Grand Prix on Saturday and as it turns out it was Barney's best European Tour performance in over six years.
Victorious by 6 legs to 5 over Diamond Ian White, van Barneveld fired in an impressive 102.49 average. That is despite the fact that the Dutch darting legend missed a grand total of 14 darts at double including a multitude of match darts before stumbling over the line.
Sadly for van Barneveld and the Barney Army the former five-time champion of the world was unable to replicate a similar level of performance in round two, losing comprehensively to Gerwyn Price 6-2. Nevertheless van Barneveld continues to show signs of improvement as he looks to return to the upper echelons of the sport.

- Maybe the supposed top players are burnt out from the endless travelling and tournaments, I just don't think they have the dedication or outright desire to win. I think they are more interested in the money and being popular, just keeping their rankings steady. The only thing that mattered to Phil Taylor was winning, not winning a few games to top up the money pot and seeking the fans attention. Maybe there is too many tournaments now and the enthusiasm is gone. This year especially has seen so many different winners and unexpected draws and line ups.richieburnettrocks14-11-2024
