GRANDSLAM GP1 RAYMOND VAN BARNEVELD 08
Raymond van Barneveld has claimed his first win of the 2021 Grand Slam of Darts easing past Joe Davis who struggled once more with injury in defeat to the great Dutchman.
It is a first win in almost two years on TV though for Van Barneveld who will hope to move through when he faces Gary Anderson in the final group outing.
He averaged 94 with 50% on the doubles against Davis with a high checkout of 121 in a thoroughly classy display.
Van Barneveld missed two darts for the opener but Davis couldn't pounce at the Dutchman took the lead. He broke from there with relative ease pinning double 10 for a 56 checkout to make it 2-0.
Control continued as Van Barneveld pinned double 20 to make it 3-0. A flourish in the form of a 121 saw Barney produce a 12-darter and go one away.
A 180 and 76 checkout saw Van Barneveld conclude proceedings and claim his first points.
While Luke Humphries remained in the hunt for a spot in the latter stages in Wolverhampton by downing Matt Campbell in Group F.
Humphries produced five 180's en route to a 5-3 triumph over the Canadian ace in a high quality affair.
It was a closely ran tie with 'Cool Hand' producing 5/14 including a high checkout of 120.
While for Campbell in defeat hit 3/6 with two ton plus checkouts with a high of 107 but it is the Newbury ace who takes the points and the chance to move through.
